Lg's Latest G4 Stylus Phablet, G4c Budget Phone First look

The G4 Stylus is a larger, 5.7” version of the original LG G4, with stylus-based navigation design and a better price. The 5” G4c, meanwhile, has been designed as a smaller, budget-friendly version of the G4 device.

The LG G4 Stylus (aka G Stylo) is a larger, though slightly downgraded version of the original G4. It features a 5.7” HD screen (258 ppi), a 1.2 GHz Quad-core chip, 1 GB of RAM, 8GB of storage (expandable with MicroSD) and the titular Rubberdium stylus. The rear-facing camera is only 13 MP (and 5 MP front), a downgrade over the G4’s feature-rich 16 MP design. It’s clearly designed for a person who wants a large screen, but is willing to sacrifice top-level performance for a lower price tag.

The LG G4c, meanwhile, takes even sharper aim at price-conscious customers. It has a smaller 5” screen (294 ppi), but a 1.2 GHz Quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage like its larger cousin. Its camera is limited to lower-resolution 8 MP shots to help keep costs down further.

The LG G4 Stylus will be available in metallic silver and floral white colors; the G4c will be available in metallic gray, ceramic white and shiny gold. The devices are expected to launch “in the weeks to come.” Pricing has not been announced for either, though you can expect both to fall under the $600 price tag of the LG G4.

Latest Flex 2 Specs Review

The LG G Flex 2 is the first big announcement to come out of CES 2015: after testing the waters with futuristic curved phones in 2014, LG has tazen the experiment and concepts to reality with a well-thought out mass-market gadget, the G Flex 2.

After the gigantic, 6-inch original G Flex, LG has taken a more moderate approach and claims to have found the optimal size for the G Flex 2: it’s a 5.5” display.

The signature features include the same, 700R (700mm) curvature, plastic OLED display with a 1080p resolution, the new octa-ocre 64-bit Snapdragon 810 system chip, scratch self-healing back cover, and quick charge technology. What’s not to like? Before we officially approve those new features, let’s first explore them in more depth, though.

Camera and Media: 13MP, OIS+

The LG G Flex 2 does not offer much novelty in the camera: it uses a 13-megapixel main camera with optical image staiblization (OIS+) with laser auto-focus, or what seems like basically the same camera hardware as in the G3. That, however, is not a bad thing at all. The G3 has one of our favorite cameras of any 2014 flagship, with fast focusing and pleasing colors.

When it comes to media, we’d like to point out the positive effect on outdoor viewing that comes with a curved screen. The reason for this is that there are less reflections (the curve blocks a lot of them), so it’s much easier to use the device outdoors, be it to show a couple of images or share a funny YouTube video when you’re out.

Battery: fast charged

One of the most transformative innovations of 2014 was Qualcomm’s QuickCharge on real flagships. Smartphone makers have come up with different names for fast charging tech, some have also improved it, but at the core it is all a Snapdragon feature. LG is also finally joining this game with G Flex 2 and we’re happy to hear the news: the 3000mAh (non user-removable) battery supports high-speed charging that will get you from 0 to 50 percent in about 40 minutes. This type of charging requires the charger in the box connected to a wall plug.

Once again, it’s worth mentioning that expectations for the battery life of the LG G Flex 2 are much brighter than those for most other flagships. The reason for this lies in the less taxing 1080p screen resolution, while others have to cope with a more pixel-heavy Quad HD resolutions.

Nokia Lumia 640 Reviews, features and Pros and Cons

Microsoft really does a great job when it comes to building a budget smartphone. The company’s latest line of Lumia smartphones, the Lumia 640 and the 640 XL are very attractive and also have reasonably powerful specs, even though they’re relatively cheap.

The new Lumia smartphones from Microsoft are very similar in terms of design to the previous Nokia models. It’s true that neither of the two smartphones is to die for but they are pretty nice, not to mention that they’re both ready for the new Windows 10.

PROS

- Great quality of plastic

- Compatible with Windows 10

- Great specs

- Lumia 640 XL has great cameras

- Both smartphones are affordable

CONS

- The devices are still running on Windows 8.1

- Lumia 640 doesn’t have great cameras

Here is our Microsoft Lumia 640 review.

This time around the corners have been a little more rounded off but it still feels a little slippery in the hand, it doesn't have the best grip available at this range.

The thickness of the handset has been knocked down a little, though Microsoft has yet to confirm the exact dimensions of the new handset. The buttons and features all remain in the same place with the power button sitting comfortably on the right for your thumb and a volume rocker just above.

Battery

We can’t really say if the battery will last as long as Microsoft claims it will but the batteries inside the two smartphones are quite big. The Lumia 640 XL comes with a 3,000 mAh battery and the smaller one comes with a 2,500 mAh one. Microsoft claims that the battery life on both Lumia’s will last for two days.

Windows 10

Both devices are running Windows 8.1 as Windows 10 is not yet available for mobile phones. However, both the Lumia 640 and the 640 XL are ready for Windows 10. The update to Windows 10 will come to these two devices as soon as Microsoft launches its new OS. The two smartphones perform very smoothly in Windows 8.1 and the Lumia Denim update works really well.

Camera

The Lumia line-up has always been great at taking shots. While the Lumia 640s don’t have incredible cameras, they both take pretty decent photos, mainly thanks to the camera software. You can adjust lighting, control exposure and have several effects at your disposal and you can also create living pictures that will show you the changes you’ve made to your image from start to finish in a format resembling GIF. Lumia 640 shoots lesser quality photos, however. For some reason, the smaller Lumia comes with weaker cameras. It comes with an 8MP camera on the back and a 1MP camera on its front. Seeing how selfies are the new trend right now, we can’t understand why Microsoft chose to put such a small front-facing camera on its device.

Latest Nokia Smartphones under Rs 16000 in India

As expected Microsoft has launched the dual SIM Lumia 640 for Rs. 11,999 and the Lumia 640 XL (dual SIM) for Rs. 15,799. These handsets will be available on Flipkart starting today and will also be available in retail stores within few days.

Though these handsets are available in 4G variant, Microsoft has launched only the 3G variant in India. Users will get Office 365 free subscription for 1 year along with 1 TeraByte of online storage (OneDrive) – this is for limited period only.

The Lumia 640 Dual SIM smartphone weighs about 145 grams and it is 8.8mm thick. It sports a 5 inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. It is running WP8.1 with 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and 128GB external card support. This handset is powered by qualcomm snapdragon 400 1.2GHz quad core processor.

Also included is an 8MP AF camera on the rear with flash and a 0.9MP front facing camera. Rear camera can shoot full HD videos. Key features are 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. The Lumia 640 houses a 2500 mAh battery that delivers up to 20 hours of talk time on a single charge. The dual SIM Microsoft Lumia 640 is priced at Rs. 11,999.

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL is also using the same qualcomm snapdragon 400 chipset running WP8.1 with 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and 128GB micro SD card support. This dual SIM handset sports a 5.7 inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. The handset comes with 13MP rear camera with flash and 5MP front facing camera.

Key features are 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Lumia 640 XL gets power from a 3000 mAh battery that gives about 23 hours of talk time on a full battery charge. Microsoft Lumia 640 XL is price at Rs. 15,799.

How Free Appps are Killing your smartphones Android

Free mobile apps with ads drain your smartphone's battery faster, cause it to run slower, and use more network data, scientists, including one of Indian-origin, have found.
When compared to apps without ads, the researchers found that apps with ads use an average of 16 percent more energy than apps without ads.

That lowers the battery life of a smartphone from 2.5 to 2.1 hours on average - or down to 1.7 hours at the high end of energy usage.

Researchers at the University of Southern California, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Queen's University in Canada said that a phone's Central Processing Unit (CPU) is like its brain - and ads eat up a lot of that brain power, slowing it down.

Apps with ads take up an average of 48 percent more CPU time - 22 percent more memory use and 56 percent greater CPU utilization (the amount of time the CPU was used).

Since the ads themselves are content that has to be downloaded, apps with ads cause smartphones to use much more data - up to 100 percent more, in some cases.

On average, these apps use around 79 percent more network data.

Together, these frustrations and expenses led users to rate apps with ads lower - costing them an overall average of .003 stars on a five-star rating scale.

"In absolute terms, this is very low, but in the crowded and competitive world of apps it's a huge difference. It can make the difference between your app getting downloaded or going unnoticed," said William Halfond, co-corresponding author of the study at the University of Southern California.

Halfond along with Meiyappan Nagappan of RIT and other colleagues compared 21 top apps from the past year - culled from a list of 10,750 that had been in the top 400 of each of Google Play's 30 categories from January to August of last year.

They then measured their effect on phones using analysis tools loaded onto a Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone.

Next, Halfond said he hopes to create models that will allow app developers to predict how well their products will be received by the public - both with and without ads.

Samsung Galaxy E7 Reviews, Hidden features and Specifications

Samsung didn’t have a great year in 2014. It lost most of its market share in the budget price range to the competitors including Micromax, Xiaomi, Gionee, and Huawei. With the launch of Samsung Galaxy E7 smartphone, Samsung is trying to keep its market share intact in mid price range. The E7 smartphone has been priced at Rs. 23,000 which went on sale on January 20 in India.

The Galaxy E series was launched along with the A series where both had the same specs. The only thing that makes them apart is that the E series smartphones are made out of the plastic. That’s the reason the Galaxy E7 smartphone is cheaper than the Galaxy A7.

Overview:

The E7 will feature a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen of HD (1280×720) resolution, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB of expandable internal storage, and a 2,950mAh battery. The E7 will be considerably thin at 7.2 mm, while its full dimensions will be 151×77×7.2 mm. As listed above, the phone will run on Android Lollipop

Design & Hardware:

Let us first discuss the design and build aspect. The Galaxy E7 follows the standard design form of Samsung. It has the metal frame that we have already seen in Galaxy S5. The smartphone is light in weight in comparison to Xiaomi Mi4, while the back cover is made up of polycarbonate material, and has a glossy finish. The Galaxy E7 has the unibody design with a non-removable back cover. SIM and microSD slots have been provided on the right side and volume rocker on the left side of the phone. The second SIM card slot can act as a MicroSD card slot, so you will have to sacrifice the Dual SIM functionality for more space or vice versa. One design aspect some may not like is that rear camera is sticking out from the handset’s body.

Software:

Samsung Galaxy E7 SoftwareOn the software front, Galaxy E7 runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS, with the TouchWiz UI and is expected to get 5.0 Lollipop update sooner. I personally never liked the TouchWiz UI, and always have been a fan of stock Android ROM. TouchWiz has always been known to be one of the heaviest ROMs out there, bloated with unwanted features and apps. The Galaxy E7 also comes with bloatware you find on the other Samsung smartphones. Samsung has provided many features in its camera apps such as Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, a GIF feature and Beauty Shot, which all the selfies lovers would like to explore.

Initial impression

The Samsung Galaxy E7 is a decent smartphone overall. But at this price point, users have better options including Xioami Mi4, OnePlus One and Lenovo Vibe X2. This was our hands on and the quick review. Stay tuned for our full reviews, in which we will test phone’s performance, camera quality, battery life and gaming.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs S6 Comparison, reviews and Features

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 wasn’t exactly a flop, but at the same time could hardly be considered the company’s most successful handset to date. Samsung itself admitted the handset didn’t sell as well as it had hoped, and there was a reasonably sizeable backlash of criticism from fans and press about the S5’s lackluster design and hardware. In short, it did not live up to the hype.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a plastic handset with a removable rear cover that has a perforated texture, supposedly in order to feel more natural and aid grip in the hand. It's a removable cover, allowing access to the also removable battery and microSDXC slot.

With the Samsung Galaxy S6 we find a more premium-looking design with a metal chassis and mirrored finish to the rear and tougher Gorilla Glass 4 at both front and back. The device is no longer waterproof (for that check out the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S6 Active), and the battery no longer removable. With 32GB of storage as standard, Samsung has also removed the microSD card slot. We thought the design would look more similar to the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, but the Samsung Galaxy S6 reminds us more of the iPhone 6.

Display Comparison

The Galaxy S5 packs a fairly modest display panel compared to a lot of the supersized, Ultra-HD examples strutting around the market at present. It has a 5.1in Super AMOLED at 1920x1080 pixels and 432 pixels-per-inch. It’s still nice and sharp, however, with great color and brightness levels, good viewing angles, and at full HD rather than anything beefier it’s not going to drain your battery like a newly awoken vampire. Samsung did go the whole hog on the Galaxy Note 4 by bumping the resolution up to QHD at 2560x1440 pixels and its gone and done exactly the same thing on the Samsung Galaxy S6, which is a 5.1in QHD Super AMOLED panel with a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and an eye-bursting pixel density of 577 ppi.

Camera Connectivity

Both Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6 are fitted with 16Mp rear cameras, but the S6's version has been improved with smart optical image stabilization (as seen on the Note 4), plus a f1.9 wide-angle lens that allows for better shots in low light. The S6's camera is always on in the background too, so it will spring into action and be ready to shoot in just 0.7 seconds. Plus an IR sensor can automatically detect and adjust white balance. The front camera has been boosted from 2- to 5Mp, and now supports real-time HDR, while 4K video recording is supported at 30fps.

Audio Comparison

Sound quality in the S5 is acceptable, but nothing out of the ordinary. With the S6 Samsung claims the built-in speaker (still a single speaker) offers 1.5 times the volume.

Battery Life Comparison

The Samsung Galaxy has a 2800mAh removable battery and an Ultra Power Saving mode that ekes out every bit of life (up to 24 hours) from the last 10 percent of juice by turning off all unnecessary functions and using a greyscale display. The S6's battery capacity has a reduced capacity of 2550mAh, but has some nice upgrades. Wireless charging is optional, while you can get up to four hours use from a 10-minute charge. Samsung says the S6 charges in half the time of the iPhone 6.

Software

While the Samsung Galaxy S5 is sold running Android KitKat, the S6 will come with Lollipop. You can read up on the key differences in our Android KitKat vs Android Lollipop review, but keep in mind that Samsung is also rolling out Lollipop to the S5. TouchWiz features on both S5 and S6, but in the S6 Samsung says it is no longer leggy. There's the S Health 4.0 app, which will track your activity thanks to the various sensors including a barometer and is also used in conjunction with the heart rate scanner on the rear of the device.

Samsung's new Samsung Pay is made available thanks to the NFC chip, too, though it isn't set to launch in the US until the second half of 2015 so won't arrive in the UK for a long time. One interesting thing is that the S6 comes with Microsoft Apps pre-installed, and you'll get OneDrive with 115GB of space for two years, as well as Microsoft's OneNote app. Samsung KNOX is present with security features including Find My Mobile.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 Reviews and Features

With great power comes great responsibility. Today's smartphones and tablets have more processing power than what NASA had to work with back in the 60s to get human beings on the moon.

In just a short period of time, we've gone from single-core to quad-core mobile processors being the norm, and for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung is giving consumers worldwide a taste of its Exynos octa-core chipset.

While power efficiency has improved, it's still no easy feat to power our mobile devices of today. From Full HD and beyond displays to the hoard of apps we use, there's a lot to keep up with. In keeping up with the Joneses, things can get a little heated. In most cases, it's nothing out of the ordinary. In the alleged case of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, it's far from it.

Snapdragon 810 Processors

The Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 810 processor, the "ultimate connected computing processor," with 64-bit computing on 8 CPU cores and leading modem capabilities, is designed to enable the most advanced connected mobile user experiences, including streaming 4K Ultra HD video, sharing top-quality digital photos, online 3D gaming, and virtually seamless communications, along with outstanding battery life for premium smartphones and tablets.

Snapdragon 810 User Experiences

When you need premium tier mobile computing capability, the Snapdragon 810 processor offers highly advanced features, performance and power-efficient design.

Sound of the cinema

Smartphone audio will also receive a huge boost in the Snapdragon 810, both in terms of capturing and pumping out sound. In terms of output, Dolby Atmos support will provide a surround sound-like experience on a simple set of stereo headphones. Your Netflix sessions on the train home are destined to get even more cinematic. As for recording, Fluence Pro support will allow devices that sport three microphones to record full 3D sound. You’ll even be able to manually select the direction you want to record sound in.

4G LTE

X10 LTE with 3x20MHz fully integrated LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation supports download speeds up to 450 Mbps for intensive use cases like 4K streaming.

Video

Support for hardware based HEVC playback and capture at 4K resolution supports power efficient 4K streaming and uploads.

Battery Life

Tight integration and support for Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0 technology and Qualcomm® WiPower™ technology

Graphics

New Qualcomm® Adreno™ 430 GPU and display engine enable 3D gaming on 4K displays
