Panasonic had in November launched the P55 smartphone in India, priced at Rs. 10,290. The company on Thursday has launched a follow up handset called P55 Novo. Priced at Rs. 9,290, the P55 Novo will be available from the first week of July.

The selfie-focused Panasonic P55 Novo runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box, and comes with dual-SIM support. It features a 5.3-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display, and is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core processor (unspecified) coupled with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone includes 8GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB).

The smartphone sports a 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with triple-LED flash, while also housing a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash. Connectivity options on the Panasonice P55 Novo include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, FM radio, Micro-USB, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS/ A-GPS, and 3G.

It packs the same 2500mAh removable battery like in the P55, with no word on talk time and standby time. Measuring 147.9x73.8x8.15mm, the Panasonic P55 Novo features Tap Play, which allows users to wake up the smartphone without pressing the physical power button, and Gesture Play, which allows launching of apps via gestures.

Lg's Latest G4 Stylus Phablet, G4c Budget Phone First look

The G4 Stylus is a larger, 5.7” version of the original LG G4, with stylus-based navigation design and a better price. The 5” G4c, meanwhile, has been designed as a smaller, budget-friendly version of the G4 device.

The LG G4 Stylus (aka G Stylo) is a larger, though slightly downgraded version of the original G4. It features a 5.7” HD screen (258 ppi), a 1.2 GHz Quad-core chip, 1 GB of RAM, 8GB of storage (expandable with MicroSD) and the titular Rubberdium stylus. The rear-facing camera is only 13 MP (and 5 MP front), a downgrade over the G4’s feature-rich 16 MP design. It’s clearly designed for a person who wants a large screen, but is willing to sacrifice top-level performance for a lower price tag.

The LG G4c, meanwhile, takes even sharper aim at price-conscious customers. It has a smaller 5” screen (294 ppi), but a 1.2 GHz Quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage like its larger cousin. Its camera is limited to lower-resolution 8 MP shots to help keep costs down further.

The LG G4 Stylus will be available in metallic silver and floral white colors; the G4c will be available in metallic gray, ceramic white and shiny gold. The devices are expected to launch “in the weeks to come.” Pricing has not been announced for either, though you can expect both to fall under the $600 price tag of the LG G4.

Latest Flex 2 Specs Review

The LG G Flex 2 is the first big announcement to come out of CES 2015: after testing the waters with futuristic curved phones in 2014, LG has tazen the experiment and concepts to reality with a well-thought out mass-market gadget, the G Flex 2.

After the gigantic, 6-inch original G Flex, LG has taken a more moderate approach and claims to have found the optimal size for the G Flex 2: it’s a 5.5” display.

The signature features include the same, 700R (700mm) curvature, plastic OLED display with a 1080p resolution, the new octa-ocre 64-bit Snapdragon 810 system chip, scratch self-healing back cover, and quick charge technology. What’s not to like? Before we officially approve those new features, let’s first explore them in more depth, though.

Camera and Media: 13MP, OIS+

The LG G Flex 2 does not offer much novelty in the camera: it uses a 13-megapixel main camera with optical image staiblization (OIS+) with laser auto-focus, or what seems like basically the same camera hardware as in the G3. That, however, is not a bad thing at all. The G3 has one of our favorite cameras of any 2014 flagship, with fast focusing and pleasing colors.

When it comes to media, we’d like to point out the positive effect on outdoor viewing that comes with a curved screen. The reason for this is that there are less reflections (the curve blocks a lot of them), so it’s much easier to use the device outdoors, be it to show a couple of images or share a funny YouTube video when you’re out.

Battery: fast charged

One of the most transformative innovations of 2014 was Qualcomm’s QuickCharge on real flagships. Smartphone makers have come up with different names for fast charging tech, some have also improved it, but at the core it is all a Snapdragon feature. LG is also finally joining this game with G Flex 2 and we’re happy to hear the news: the 3000mAh (non user-removable) battery supports high-speed charging that will get you from 0 to 50 percent in about 40 minutes. This type of charging requires the charger in the box connected to a wall plug.

Once again, it’s worth mentioning that expectations for the battery life of the LG G Flex 2 are much brighter than those for most other flagships. The reason for this lies in the less taxing 1080p screen resolution, while others have to cope with a more pixel-heavy Quad HD resolutions.

Yu Yuphoria launched at Rs. 6999

Yu Televentures, a subsidiary of Micromax, on Tuesday launched its second smartphone, the Yu Yuphoria. The Yu Yuphoria has been priced at Rs. 6,999 and, like the Yu Yureka, it will be exclusively available via Amazon India. The first flash sale of the Yu Yuphoria is scheduled for May 28 for which registrations begin starting 5pm IST Tuesday. The smartphone will be available in Buffed Steel and Champagne Gold colours.

Commenting on the launch, Rahul Sharma, Founder Yu, "We stepped out to do everything that's exciting and new and today's launch is all of that. We are proud to say that with Yuphoria, we are breaking the flagship myth and introducing our first smartphone that has been designed and assembled in India."

For specifications, the Yu Yuphoria features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) TFT IPS display and sports third-generation Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. Sharma at the launch claimed that the screen to ratio on the Yuphoria is 67 percent. The Yuphoria runs Android 5.0 Lollipop-based Cyanogen OS 12.

The handset is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. It features 16GB of built-in storage.

The dual-SIM based Yuphoria supports 4G and features accelerometer, ambient, proximity, gyroscope, and e-compass. It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.2 lens and LED flash. while also featuring a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture. It is backed by a 2230mAh battery, and weighs 143 grams.

Microsoft really does a great job when it comes to building a budget smartphone. The company’s latest line of Lumia smartphones, the Lumia 640 and the 640 XL are very attractive and also have reasonably powerful specs, even though they’re relatively cheap.

The new Lumia smartphones from Microsoft are very similar in terms of design to the previous Nokia models. It’s true that neither of the two smartphones is to die for but they are pretty nice, not to mention that they’re both ready for the new Windows 10.

This time around the corners have been a little more rounded off but it still feels a little slippery in the hand, it doesn't have the best grip available at this range.

The thickness of the handset has been knocked down a little, though Microsoft has yet to confirm the exact dimensions of the new handset. The buttons and features all remain in the same place with the power button sitting comfortably on the right for your thumb and a volume rocker just above.

Battery

We can’t really say if the battery will last as long as Microsoft claims it will but the batteries inside the two smartphones are quite big. The Lumia 640 XL comes with a 3,000 mAh battery and the smaller one comes with a 2,500 mAh one. Microsoft claims that the battery life on both Lumia’s will last for two days.

Windows 10

Both devices are running Windows 8.1 as Windows 10 is not yet available for mobile phones. However, both the Lumia 640 and the 640 XL are ready for Windows 10. The update to Windows 10 will come to these two devices as soon as Microsoft launches its new OS. The two smartphones perform very smoothly in Windows 8.1 and the Lumia Denim update works really well.

Camera

The Lumia line-up has always been great at taking shots. While the Lumia 640s don’t have incredible cameras, they both take pretty decent photos, mainly thanks to the camera software. You can adjust lighting, control exposure and have several effects at your disposal and you can also create living pictures that will show you the changes you’ve made to your image from start to finish in a format resembling GIF. Lumia 640 shoots lesser quality photos, however. For some reason, the smaller Lumia comes with weaker cameras. It comes with an 8MP camera on the back and a 1MP camera on its front. Seeing how selfies are the new trend right now, we can’t understand why Microsoft chose to put such a small front-facing camera on its device.

How Free Appps are Killing your smartphones Android

Free mobile apps with ads drain your smartphone's battery faster, cause it to run slower, and use more network data, scientists, including one of Indian-origin, have found.

When compared to apps without ads, the researchers found that apps with ads use an average of 16 percent more energy than apps without ads.

That lowers the battery life of a smartphone from 2.5 to 2.1 hours on average - or down to 1.7 hours at the high end of energy usage.

Researchers at the University of Southern California, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Queen's University in Canada said that a phone's Central Processing Unit (CPU) is like its brain - and ads eat up a lot of that brain power, slowing it down.

Apps with ads take up an average of 48 percent more CPU time - 22 percent more memory use and 56 percent greater CPU utilization (the amount of time the CPU was used).

Since the ads themselves are content that has to be downloaded, apps with ads cause smartphones to use much more data - up to 100 percent more, in some cases.

On average, these apps use around 79 percent more network data.

Together, these frustrations and expenses led users to rate apps with ads lower - costing them an overall average of .003 stars on a five-star rating scale.

"In absolute terms, this is very low, but in the crowded and competitive world of apps it's a huge difference. It can make the difference between your app getting downloaded or going unnoticed," said William Halfond, co-corresponding author of the study at the University of Southern California.

Halfond along with Meiyappan Nagappan of RIT and other colleagues compared 21 top apps from the past year - culled from a list of 10,750 that had been in the top 400 of each of Google Play's 30 categories from January to August of last year.

They then measured their effect on phones using analysis tools loaded onto a Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone.

Next, Halfond said he hopes to create models that will allow app developers to predict how well their products will be received by the public - both with and without ads.
